The Whanganui River

The mighty Whanganui River , steeped in history, commences its journey at Mt Tongariro.

It is the longest navigable river in New Zealand and winds its way through 239 Millennium Hill Bason Botanic Reserve Wanganuirapids ending its journey at the Tasman Sea.  It flows through the centre of Wanganui and is rich in tradition, legend and mystery with our very own Paddle Steamer the Waimarie.
